Sketchbook Prompts

Image
At Conestoga College, I had a assignment that involved a physical sketchbook ONLY, (no digital sketching): Sketchbook Prompts. We were given a prompt, and we had to come back next week with about 15 drawing related to that prompt. Some of the prompts were:       Expressive Hands      Expressive Eyes       Zoo Expression      Hybrid Creations      Environmental Spirits      Man-made Objects as Characters      Gestural Body Language      Mouth Shapes for Lip Sync Animation

New website for my Portfolio

First, let me say that I love the entire process of making an Animated Film, always have.  But my strengths have always been towards the Pre-Production part of it more the others: Visual Development, Concept Art, Storyboarding and Character Design. To showcase these skills, I have created a new website:  https://swethasubramaniam1.wixsite.com/artportfolio

Character Designs

Image
For my story, "An Amazing Bishop Endgame", I had to design the characters, as part of my assignments:

Storyboards

During my Bachelor's and Master's courses, I have done storyboarding ONLY ON PAPER.  At Conestoga, in the last year, is when I started using a storyboarding software: Storyboard Pro. This is the link to check out my storyboards and the animatics, on my Portfolio Website: https://swethasubramaniam1.wixsite.com/artportfolio/storyboard

Study of Bones and Muscles

Image
Part of Life Drawing class is to study the bones and muscles so as to have a basic knowledge of Anatomy. It's important to know this so that the character can be animated with a believable personality:

First Time with the Sound Department

I always knew that audio was vital to animation because it helps with the Principles of Animation, especially TIMING. But I've never spent time with the Sound Department, where we record dialogues, create sound effects, time the music, Basically designing and engineering sound: Here are some assignments I did for my SOUND CLASS:      A promotional video for a travel agency (DISCLAIMER: the background music was taken from WHITE COLLAR Season 3 Episode 11 - Checkmate):  https://youtu.be/FCNTwEhjxwY      A cartoon, where I removed all the audio it came with and created my own Foley (Sound Effects) and     timed it to the cartoon (DISCLAIMER: The cartoon is "Corn To Be Wild" from Oscar's Oasis. IT WAS SOLELY USED FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES) :

First time with Blender

I have only the software Blender, for a little 3D work as part of another course. But this time, I have learnt much more about Blender, and used it to plan my animations, when Audio was part of the Assignment: DISCLAIMER: The audios from these dialogue animations, USED SOLELY FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES, are taken from -            MID SHOT: Castle Season 5 Episode 22 - "Still" (Originally spoken by Nathan Fillion):     FULL BODY  SHOT: The Post (Originally spoken by Meryl Streep):

Animations

Recently, I got back in to 3D Animation with the course at Conestoga College in Canada. With the tech and softwares constantly changing, my skills needed a serious upgrade. And that's what I got here. I learnt a lot more in this one year than I did in my 3-year Bachelor course in India, and that's with traditional animation in my first year. All of these videos (playblasts) are assignments for the course, and the work had to end where they did to move on to the next assignment. A lot more work needs to go into all of them: Ball and Tail: Side Step: Walk: Jump: Pantomime: Dialogues: There are 2 different camera frames for these 2 dialogues - One is where the character is in Mid-Shot, and the other character is in a Full Body Shot.  DISCLAIMER: The audios from these dialogue animations, USED SOLELY FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES, are taken from -            MID SHOT: Castle Season 5 Episode 22 - "Still" (Originally spoken by Nathan Fillion):  ...

Costumed Model in Life Drawing

Image
A model wearing a costume taught me how to draw the cloth and more importantly, how to make it flow and drape around a body:

Animal Gestures

Image
I went the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, as part of a class field trip, to draw animals. Real or Cartoon looks, I seem to draw animals better:
